I'm doing a science project and I need some background research on what ingredients make makeup (esp. lip balm) waterproof.

I'm not totally sure, but I'm guessing it would be some sort of lipid-based product because it is hydrophobic (does not attract water).What ingredients make makeup (esp. lip balm) waterproof?
